PROJECT

LendLease Internal F&B Strategy – Barangaroo

TASK

As far as benchmarks go, when Lendlease unveiled its new corporate offices at Tower 3 of Barrangaroo in 2016, the unanimous industry cry was that Lendlease had raised the bar for workplace environment for its employees and visitors. A central highlight is the food offer for employee collaboration and enjoyment called the “kitchen table” – the internal staff café created by Brain&Poulter.

From 2012 – 2015 B&P worked alongside Lend Lease’s workplace change team, project managers, architects and interior designers to provide concept justification, space planning, business model and procurement services in regard to the total internal F&B offer for Lend Lease.

Initially, Lend Lease’s aspirations were naturally to incorporate a wide variety of different F&B experiences throughout the building – often influenced by business activity or architectural opportunities such as voids, foyers, views and executives.

OUTCOME

B&P structured process of calculating likely volumes and types of F&B functions – from number of coffees likely to be consumed per day, to amount of times sandwich platers or cocktail parties would be required in auditoriums, to how frequently visitors would attend meetings within the lobby’s, was crucial in developing sustainable volumes and hierarchy of F&B needs resulted in recommendations to reduce the number and type of offers in order to embrace a business model that would best deliver financially and experientially to the vision.

B&P delivered and presented the logic to support the strategy to the PCG and once approved, worked with the kitchen designers and interior designers to refine the tenancy & kitchen layouts and seating plans and then managed the procurement process.

The results – a highly patronised and much copied interactive, collaborative and engaging F&B offerings in this progressive workplace.
