Suzee Brain

Suzee has a stunning track record of both owning and managing super successful food operations from an early age.  Suzee held her first senior management role before she turned 21 and worked in senior management roles in hotel and commercial catering until she was 30.

At 30, she started her own cafe chain called “Sydney Eats” and in 2008 her cafe called “92 Degrees” won Cafe of the Year.

Kate Poulter
Master of Food. Director & Co-owner

Cooking it, managing it, selling it, optimising it, marketing it, and driving profits for it… Kate sure has an eclectic background in food; she has been chef, front of house, accountant, restaurateur and marketeer and held various senior food management roles for David Jones and Coles.

This all-round experience in both prestige and everyday markets is one of the key reasons why she’s such a master at what she does.

Jane Walker

Hospitality flows through Jane’s veins — from her warm, endearing nature to her formidable 20 years industry experience.
From behind a stove as a contract caterer to the hustle and bustle of food & beverage management at airports and theme parks and several stints overseas working for major multi-national organisations, Jane knows food operations like the back of her hand.

Rowena Cannane
Marketing Messiah.

Background:
With a Commerce degree from UNSW (Marketing & Hospitality), Rowena has stuck to her guns and kept a steel focus on marketing and hospitality for her entire working life.  8 years of owning and building one of Sydney’s first gourmet ice cream manufacturing plants meant she was in hot demand as a marketing consultant to other gourmet food businesses in subsequent years.
Of late, Rowena has shifted her focus to marketing expertise for food retailers to the consumer and has become passionate about how businesses connect, not just through their product and service but through values and ethics.

Romana Rocchi
Food Mechanic. Consultant, NSW

Background:
“Food Glorious Food”.  Romana IS David Jones Food Hall.  After 20 years as the senior food buyer for David Jones Food Halls nationally and a previous Foodhall Manager of the Market St Food Hall, Romana knows everything there is to know about gourmet food and the artisan producers of food here and around the globe.
As the “Eataly” of Australia, her roles at David Jones have also given her enormous strength in developing strategies for managing the gross profit through anticipating consumer trends and managing the gross profit daily as well as also identifying when to use concessionaires.

Greatest Achievements:
Most of Romana’s achievements relate to massive profit improvements either through better stock management, picking new trends for foods and then having the product ready when the trend hits or negotiating better supplier terms.

Carol Lynch
Food Strategist.  Consultant, Victoria

With a career driving innovation across national and international retail, food and leisure developments, Carol has been involved in creating compelling concepts and developing unique destinations for a range of clients. Carol has owned and managed restaurants, a catering/event company and a beverage manufacturing plant in Indonesia. Charles Bowie
King of Food.  Consultant, NSW

Background:
Charles’ claim to fame is in the width and depth of his knowledge. From the importance of the shopfront day-to-day operations to financial analysis to strategic development. In 22 years Charles has virtually done it all in the strategy, operations and business development areas of a food business. From day to day stock, staff and customer management to higher level strategic work.

Charles has had senior food-related positions in each area working for Westfield, McDonalds and David Jones.

Greatest Achievements:
Being a key member of the project team which refurbished all the David Jones Food Halls nationally from 2002 to 2005.
Completing this while also completing an MBA part time (major in Marketing).

Kishan Modi
Data Guru. Consultant, NSW

Background:
Kishan is an ex-management consultant passionate about food. Prior to joining Brain & Poulter he was at A.T. Kearney for over two years with projects including growth strategies, operational improvements, transformation programs, outsourcing, process improvement and turnaround strategies. He worked mainly in the retail and F&B industries.

Kishan studied Business Management at King’s College London and is also trained as a Basic Pastry Chef at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. As well as working at Brain & Poulter, Kishan is at Eveleigh Markets with colleague Alex Herbert each Saturday and is working towards setting up his own food business.

Greatest Achievements:
Ranked 1st place in the year consecutively at university and was awarded a full scholarship from King’s College London for 1 years tuition. 
Promoted to Senior Business Analyst in less than 18 months of joining A.T. Kearney as a graduate.

Guru at:
Kishan is our data guru. His previous consulting experience shows he is by no means new to analysing big data. He is a natural problem solver and can effectively internalise problems and communicate solutions in a well structured and logical manner.

From management consultant to food consultant, Kishan has managed to find his ideal niche and apply his skills to an industry he is really passionate about. He enjoys being surrounded by all things food whilst still being challenged to find strategic solutions for clients and continuously learning on the job.

Kishan goes to bootcamp 4-5 days a week. He enjoys running, tennis and planning where next to eat out and adding to his spreadsheet of ‘must try’ restaurants.

Taylor Westlake

Background:
Taylor worked for 4 years in the hospitality industry as a barista and waiter while studying at Sydney University. He was also involved in the organisation of events like the ARIA’s and AACTA awards.
After graduating with Honours in Political Economy, Taylor joined Brain & Poulter.
His ‘on the floor’ industry experience, education, and holistic problem-solving skills have given him a unique understanding of food retail from both delivery and sustainability points of view.

Working on the food strategy for the entire ISPT Commercial and Retail portfolios. This included developing tools for their teams and helping them to view food retail in a different light while staying true to B&P principles of sustainability.

Jesse Stewart

Background:
Jesse worked as a chef in restaurants in New Zealand and Australia before he moved into food retail management.
After 8 years, he decided to switch careers. He studied a degree in Applied Economics. Then he relocated to London to work as a senior analyst.
After returning to Sydney in 2016, Jesse joined Brain & Poulter because it gave him the opportunity to take advantage of his economics and food retail skills.
